Caribbean Trumpet tree is native to the West Indies and South America but can be found throughout Southern Florida; Pinellas County, Hillsborough County, Broward Counties, Brevard Counties, as well as Puerto Rico and the Vigin Islands. Tabebuia aurea blooms mostly in the spring but flowers can be seen through the summer sometimes in the fall. This small stree with twisting cork like trunk and branches has palmately compound leaves with bright yellow flowers. The common English name Caribbean Trumpet tree is misleading as it is not native to the caribbean. It is also known as the Silver Trumpet Tree and Tree of Gold.
This species is crucial for the Northeastern Brazil Spix's Macaw which is extinct in the wild with fewer than 100 birds remaining in captivity.
